Intro to Long Range

Intro To Long Range

This course is geared towards new to intermediate shooters.  We will cover the fundamentals of long range rifle marksmanship and apply those fundamentals to engage static targets at known distances.  Instructors will help each student to build the necessary data to engage targets.  Shooters will be teamed up with a partner to develop spotting and data gathering skills.

We will conduct the training 100% on the range.

Agenda:

  • Introduction
  • Fundamentals of Marksmanship
  • Rifle setup
  • Scope Setup
  • 100 yd Zero and Chrono
  • Shooter / Spotter Demo
  • Known Distance Target Engagement

Required Gear:

  • Rifle capable of shooting 1″ at 100 yds with a 100 yd zero.
  • Ammunition – 100 rounds min
  • We prefer factory ammunition to minimize any issues; however, reloads are acceptable if you have tested them with a chronograph and your SD “Standard Deviation” is no more than 35 FPS.  An SD of more than 35 would indicate reloading practices are not quite suitable for long range.
  • Scope properly torqued in quality rings
  • Turrets to dial are suggested but not necessary.  We can work with BDC or duplex reticles.
  • Bag for rifle support.  Our favorite bag is the Armageddon Gear Game Changer bag.  A sock filled with sand or other media is also acceptable.
  • Pen and Paper for notes.
  • Rain / Inclement weather gear
  • We will shoot rain or shine, provided lightening is not within 3 miles.  We suggest everyone bring rain gear, extra socks, etc to stay dry.
  • Ear Protection
  • Bipod

Suggested Gear (not required at all):

  • Kestrel or Ballistic app used to develop DOPE
  • Spotting Scope or Binos
  • Chair
  • Shooting Mat
  • Eye Protection
  • Water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray
